What is the Importance of Security in IoT?
The Internet of Things (IoT) has the power to renovate all the devices that will make active all the devices which were passive until now. This is a transformation journey which we just started, there is a lot to see in future. Soon every device you own and nearly every object which you can imagine will be connected to the internet by some mean. Your watch, refrigerator, alarm system, doorbell and smoke detector may already connect to the network but now it’s expanding from connected peoples to the connected asset, connected products, connected fleets and many more.
Technology consulting firm Gartner, Inc. projects that 8.4 billion connected things will be in use worldwide in this year, up 31 percent from 2016. Total spending on endpoints and services will reach almost $2 trillion this year. And this number is expected to grow by more than three times to nearly 21 billion by the year 2020. With all of these, the biggest challenge will be the security of network in presence of IoT.
On Friday 21 Oct. 2016, hackers used the Internet of Things (IoT) devices to DDoS attacks on Dyn (provides internet services), among them a Domain Name Service (DNS) resulting taken offline larger sites such as Twitter, Spotify, and Reddit. The attack was reported quickly by the press by the name of an Internet of Things Explosions, such as the NY Times and the BBC News.
To overcome this kind of issues standards should be uniform, interoperability needs to be maintained so if the different companies will use the same standard then interoperability will be much more likely. ISO/IEC joint technical committee JTC 1 formed a working group on the Internet of Things (WG 10) to develop an architectural model for the interoperability of IoT systems.
So Varistor Technologies is developing products considering all the protocols which are defined by Standard Organizations such as ISO, IEC etc. and products developed by Varistor Technologies are secure, reliable and easy to use.
